GSM Network

TCIL entered into the GSM Network by establishing Hexacom India Ltd. in collaboration with Telesystems Group of Canada (through their subsidiary in Mauritius) and Shyam Telecom Ltd. of India in 1995 for operating cellular services in India. Bharti telecom , a leading telecom company in India, has since taken over the share of Shyam Telecom and Telesystems. the company at present is operating in the state of the Rajasthan and has a customer base of 300,000.


TCIL was entrusted the task of setting up the first cellular network in the Bhutan. TCIL was awarded a turnkey project by Bhutan Telecom to supply, install commission and provide maintenance support for the first cellular mobile network in Bhutan. the project is partially funded by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, under Indo-Bhutan Co-operation covering infrastructure items and services.

This project provides for 10,000 mobile connections in the most important towns of Bhutan, along with the coverage of roads inter connecting these towns. the towns covered are the capital town of Thimpu, Paro, Chukha, Gedu, Phuentsholing, etc. and the highway interconnecting these towns. Main subsystems were installed under this project are MSC/BSC, BTS and associated Microwave links, connecting them to MSC/BSC, Billing and Customer Care System, Pre-paid subscribers billing System, Short Message Service. Infrastructure sub system includes like towers, Shelters, power systems and air conditioning. TCIL is already taking up the expansion of the network by addition of multiple BTSs.


TCIL is also awarded the work for designing, supplying, installation, testing & commissioning of GSM based mobile train Radio communication system for Eastern Railway. Work involve installation of MSC site, BSC site and 24 BTS across 269 Kms stretch of Railways.


TCIL is undertaking the survey and system design of GSM-R network of 25 Kms Metro Railway Track for Metro Railway in Kolkata.
