Commissioning of Multipurpose Community Telecentres (MCTs) Project in Afghanistan for Afghan Post.

 

TCIL has successfully completed the Multipurpose Community Telecentres (MCTs) project for Ministry of Communication, Republic of Afghanistan during the stringent security conditions within a record period of eight & half month. The project was funded by Ministry of External Affair (MEA), Government of India at a total value of INR 14.6 million.

 

The MCTs were setup at 12 provincial capitals i.e. Kabul, Charikar, Gardez, Bamiyan, Qalat, Laghman, Kunar, Qal’eh-ye, Farah, Meymaneh, Sharan and Zaranj in Afghanistan. The scope of work involved the Supply, Installation & Commissioning of Servers, PC,s, UPS, Routers, printers, Diesel Generator Set, Switch, Modems, Computer furniture, etc. Local Area Network (LAN) is established at each post office and Internet facility is also provided. The existing Government Communication Network (GCN) has been used for connecting these post offices to each other. The data can be exchanged between the post offices at a speed of 2 Mbps. The wireless connectivity has been provided between one of the Post Office at Meymaneh and GCN.

 

The MCTs will be used as the delivery vehicles for government information and services, as well as a principal source of access to Information & Communication Technologies (ICTs) for the general public. These MCTs will cater to a wide range of users and provide multiple services and functions to the general public as email, web browsing, basic and advanced computer training, etc.

 

The basic & operational training on computers, Networking, Internet, Computer maintenance was given to Afghan Post officials. The system is now fully operational at all the sites to the entire satisfaction of Afghan Post.
